Never Give Up Easy

Metric @ Element, Victoria 04/16/08

After hearing about it just a week in advance, we scored tickets for Metric's low profile, early Victoria show at Element nightclub--the first stop on their mini tour.

With a brief wait after the doors cracked at 7, and no opening act, the band bounced out and tunneled into what would be a quick, energy-packed show. Their setlist was made up of their biggest hits (the lack of "Succexy," my personal favorite, was sad) and the debuting of some new material. Of the latter, "Cupid and Psyche" got the job done, while I found a track called "Satellite"-something more impressive. The crowd was sufficiently pumped for the new album, and seemed satisfied with the fist-pump inducing performances of "Dead Disco," "Combat Baby," and "Monster Hospital."

Overall, it was a blast and I'm sold on the new disc--whenever it may be released. So thank you, Metric, for making the stop here at the oft-forgotten, less cool sibling of Vancouver. And to any artists out there: you should do the same!
